Thank you!!

ParticipationCamp was an intimate event with about 30 individuals passionate about citizen involvement in government. Much of the event was recorded via video and collaborative note-taking. See below for more information about what was discussed and accomplished.

Online and In-Person

This weekend, we will be integrating the in-person discussions going on in DC with the online participation community that can tune in from around the world. We will list the various methods of online engagement here when it starts – about 9am Saturday morning and 10am Sunday morning. Tune in!

What’s It?

ParticipationCamp is an unconference designed to advance public participation in government by connecting government managers and staff, public engagement experts, online tool developers, and citizens. Bring your sticky engagement questions and problems and together, we can move towards solutions.

Solving Problems

ParticipationCamp is not about talking – it’s about doing, about moving the ball forward, about accomplishing something worthwhile. We’re encouraging everyone to come with a question or a problem that they’re struggling with. These will be the sessions, and each one will attract a diverse group of passionate individuals to help tease it out. You may not solve it, but you’ll certainly get a new perspective on it!

Brainstorming for DC

Thanks to the efforts of Digital Capital Week, we’ve also got two exciting events nested inside Participation Camp: each afternoon, 100 smart, creative people have already committed to brainstorm the Digital Capital Week Project Labs in June. Help design projects that will show the world that DC is a place of passionate civic action and FUN experiences created for and by its talented citizens. Scroll down to the “brainstorming” paragraph on the registration page for sign-up information.

Should you come?

Yes – if you are passionate about citizen engagement, public participation, participatory government, edemocracy, or any of the other terms that have come to signify this industry. We all know that the web is changing things. The question is, do you want to be on the forefront of the change leading the charge, or are you gonna let other people handle that?

This event is particularly geared towards the following:

  • government managers and staff
  • public engagement experts
  • online tool developers
  • citizens

The Goals

  • Advance understanding and practice of high quality public participation, with a particular focus on the role of online spaces
  • Learn about the real challenges facing government employees, including implementation of the Open Gov Directive
  • Matchmake between solution seekers and solution builders
  • Produce, expand, and connect resources that reach beyond the event
